Finding Joy in the Journey: The Importance of Celebrating Life's Wins for Nurses with PTSD

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

We all know how to celebrate the significant events in our lives; new babies, a wedding or a new house are all massive news and create a sense of joy and excitement in our nearest and dearest.

Yes, these events can be stressful to organise or attend, but they are usually few and far between.

So, how do we include celebration into our everyday lives? Lives and routines that can feel monotonous and boring a lot of the time?

Finding joy in the small things helps boost your self-esteem, confidence and general happiness.

What Are Small Wins?

Small wins can be anything that happens in your day that puts a smile on your face or makes you feel accomplished. They can be part of goals you've set yourself or spontaneous, unexpected treats that pop into your day to boost you a positive boost.

Creating small wins

When we set goals for ourselves, we can sometimes set ourselves up for failure. Creating a big goal can lead you to be unmotivated as the end result feels too far away.

By breaking down your big goal into smaller, more attainable chunks, you are much more likely to succeed and be able to celebrate your small wins along your journey.

To become successful in creating and completing small wins, follow the tips below.

● Break big goals into smaller goals- This will enable you to reflect on how far you've come in your journey when you need a motivation boost.

● Reward yourself- With smaller goals set, you will be able to reward yourself most often instead of feeling like you need to celebrate at the end of your big goal.

● Don't Pressure Yourself- don't put a deadline on your goals, no matter how small. This will create pressure, and you are more likely to feel like giving up if you haven't achieved your deadline.

● Track Your Progress- Keep a note of all your small wins, to look back on. It's easy to forget how far we've come in achieving our goals.

● Change Your Perspective- Don't concentrate on the end result. Enjoy the journey and the feeling of achievements of your small wins along the way.

Why Should We Celebrate Small Wins?

Celebrating the small wins in life can profoundly impact our mood and overall well-being.

Below are a few reasons for celebrating small victories.
